Activities & Crafts for Sports Week
On Friday, we finished up Sports Week of our second annual DIY Summer Camp. How enjoyable a week it was! I made an effort to unwind a bit and let the kids take the initiative in this one. We had to use the items I had already bought, and of course I had suggestions. But they also have some really good ideas. These Sports Week crafts and activities should be fun for you.
Easy Sports Themed Crafts
Make it Monday featured a lot of simple crafts! I knew these pennants would make a fantastic activity for Sports Week when I discovered them in the Target Dollar Spot a few weeks ago. The kids were allowed to decorate them once I got out my stash of stickers.
We created these adorable sports-themed paper plate wreaths once they had finished the pennants. You know, this is my favorite holiday craft ever! To build this really simple project, they used foam sports stickers and Kwik Stix paint.
Sports Themed Snack Ideas
This pizza recipe couldn't be any simpler! When they were recently on sale, I purchased a large quantity of frozen cheese pizzas. To create a baseball design, all we had to do was add pepperoni. The kids adored it and it was very easy!
Without a delicious treat, we couldn't let the week pass! The children enjoy baking cookies. This was quite simple because we used chilled cookie dough.
They formed the cookies using a cookie cutter in the style of a football after rolling out the dough. If you don't have a cutter that will work, you may really just cut out circular shapes from the dough. I used a tube of white frosting to add the football motif after the cookies had cooled.
For kids, balloon tennis is a blast! Their paper plate rackets can be decorated however they choose. After that, they can play this enjoyable game together to get moving.
Dollar Tree Sports Finds
We all know how much we adore the Dollar Tree! For summertime fun, they have a ton of exciting activities. Even plates with a sports motif were available for us to use this week. Here are a few of our favorite Dollar Tree toys with sports themes.
- Baseball Sets
- Foam Footballs
- Baseball Base Set
- Plastic Baseballs
- Mini Basketball Sets
- Finger Sports Game Sets
The kids had a blast using some of these during Sports Week. They enjoyed playing kickball with the neighborhood kids in the backyard using the bases as bases. Although I had a few activities prepared, at this point I was able to pull back and let them pursue their own interests. It was fantastic for us all!
Let’s Go Bowling
Travel Thursday did not let me down this week! We decided that going bowling would be enjoyable. Given that Graylie had never bowled before, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. She used a bowling ramp, while we used gutter guards. She ended up winning both games, and it was really fun!
Pool Basketball with Friends
Several of our friends and I spent the last day of the week at the pool! On Amazon, I discovered this enormous inflatable basketball game. It took me some time to blow it up because I had no clue how enormous it would be. But the kids loved playing with it. They utilized it for boat trips in the pool after they got tired of hurling the basketball at it.
Sports Week was even more enjoyable than I anticipated. I can't believe it is already July and the summer is already halfway through. Patriotic Week at our home summer camp has just begun. If you enjoy celebrating the Fourth of July, be sure to check out all the great activities this week!
